The book of the famous Russian historian P.N. Butzinsky is a study of the significant era of Bogdan Khmelnitsky - the famous commander and statesman, organizer and ideological leader of the uprising of the Zaporizhzhya Cossacks against the Commonwealth of 1648–1654. The study was compiled on the basis of archival materials, including the correspondence of Bogdan Khmelnitsky with the Turks, Tatars and Poles, who are of great importance both for covering the events of the popular uprising of the mid -17th century and for revealing the personality of the great hetman and his attitude to the Moscow state and to Ukraine.
