About eight sly spirits. Rev. Neil Sinai
Rev. Neil Sinai (Ankirsky) (about 430) - student of St. John Chrysostom and the great father of the Sinai desert. The book contains his moral-ascetic works: “About eight crafty spirits”, “that those who are in silence in the deserts are most advanced by living in cities”, “exhortation to the monks”, “Thoughts that take a person from the perishable and attach to Incorporeal, ”“ exhorting chapters ”,“ about the teacher and students ”. Rev. Neil Sinai, following Evagrius Pontic, develops a well -known classification of the eight main sinful thoughts (passions): gluttony, fornication, abbreviation, anger, sadness, despondency, vanity and pride. His subtle ascetic and psychological analysis of these passions helps the Christian successfully fight them and improve internally, which makes the book useful for both monks and the widest circle of Orthodox readers.
