About love. Stendhal
One of the most outstanding French writers of the 19th century, Henri Marie Bayil, who wrote under the pseudonym Stendhal, during his lifetime, he did not enjoy the recognition of criticism or the success of the wide reader. His magnificent short stories, the novels “Red and Black” (1830), “Parm abode” (1839) went unnoticed, only occasionally causing reviews, far from always favorable. The writer was philosophical about this. Nevertheless, Merim, who experienced the influence of Stendhal, appreciated him, Balzak admired him, Goethe and Pushkin with pleasure read his novel “Red and Black”. And in the 20th century, Stendhal firmly took the place in the pantheon of the classics of European literature.
A special place in Stendhal's work is occupied by the book “On Love” (1822). This is not a work of art, but a kind of treatise on the oddities and features of love, its phases (admiration, origin of love, crystallization, hope, doubt, etc.), about the first impression, about the specifics of the manifestation of love feelings in various countries.
