About military art. Machiavelli N.
Никколо Макиавелли (1469–1527) — итальянский политический деятель и философ. As an adviser to the Gonfaloner of the Republic Pierrot Soderini, he carried out a military reform and formed the National Army. In addition, Machiavelli participated in diplomatic missions at the courts of Louis XII in France, Ferdinand II in Naples and at the papal court in Rome. After the Medici returned to Florence in 1512, he was deprived of his position and only thanks to the amnesty and pledge paid by relatives, he escaped the execution. The politician was forced to leave the city and settle on the estate in the village of San Andrea-In-Percussin. There he began to work on the labors that glorified him for many centuries. In 1520, “On Military Art” was written - the book addresses the issues of choosing soldiers, their weapons, the location of troops, the siege and many others.
Machiavelli cites the example of the battle of past centuries, analyzes the structure of the greatest armies of the past and offers new ways to develop military affairs. Machiavelli treatises were adopted by contemporaries and descendants ambiguously, and the content of such works as “sovereign” and “on military art” still causes disputes between opponents and admirers of the personality of Niccolo Machiavelli.
