About the good of the marriage. Augustine (Aurelius), Blessed
In Russian, the first essay of the great holy father of the Western Church of the 4th-5th centuries is published in Russian. Blessed Augustine, Bishop of the Hippon (354-430), "On the Good of Marry." In it, the holy father sets out his doctrine of the foundations of Christian marriage. He considers marriage as a blessing corresponding to the will of God and nature, and sees in it the “space” for the realization of the love and unity of the spouses, a means of proper direction of sensual attraction and legal childbearing. Blessed Augustine also speaks of threats for Christian marriage: unbridled lust, adultery, etc. He based his thoughts on the Holy Scriptures.
The editors hopes that this essay will turn out to be useful for the widest circle of Orthodox readers.
