Thomas Kempi (1379 - 1471) - Catholic theologian, minister of the monastery in Agnetenberg, writer, adherent of the spiritual movement “New piety” and member of the “Brotherhood of General Life”. An important element of Christian theology and ethics. But over time, many early Christian traditions were buried under the external splendor of the late Middle Ages. And in response to this, a book appeared, rising in the number of reprints in second place after the Bible.
The treatise on the imitation of Christ was created in the community of "new piety", which advocated a return to the original practices of Christian teachings and cleansing the Bible from centuries -old layers.
In the treatise, Thomas Kempiy criticizes the external piety practiced by the monks, and calls for the acquisition of the inner world through self -denial.
