Titus Lucretius Kar (99 BC - 55 BC) - an ancient Roman poet and philosopher, materialist and epicurean. The author of the only “poetic monograph” that has reached us about the eternity of matter and infinity of the Universe.
The poem Lucretius “On the Nature of Things” is one of the peaks of the philosophical thought of mankind and at the same time one of the peaks of ancient Roman poetry. The author is driven by a passionate desire to free a person from the fear of death and fear of the gods. The means to this is the knowledge of the truth about nature. And Lucretius explores its phenomena, giving them the interpretations in the spirit of the materialistic atomism of Epicurus, at the same time unfolding the magnificent poetic picture, visual and colorful.
