About the theater. Nemirovich-Danchenko V.
Vladimir Ivanovich Nemirovich-Danchenko (1858–1943)-the famous director, teacher, one of the founders (together with K. S. Stanislavsky) of the Moscow Art Theater. Until the end of his life, he headed the Moscow Art Theater, was his director and artistic director. It was Nemirovich-Danchenko that has the merit of the discovery of the Chekhov dramaturgy: in 1898, he, the playwright known at that time, managed to persuade his close friend A.P. Chekhov to give to the Art Theater the Seagull who had failed on the imperial stage. The book of memoirs “from the past”, which entered this publication, is not only the autobiography of V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko, but also a fascinating story about the main work of his life, theater. Among the characters of the book are Stanislavsky, Chekhov, Gorky, Tolstoy, Ermolov, Meyerhold, the famous Moscow Artists - the older actors. The backstage life, rehearsals, premieres, the fight against censorship-all this under the pen Nemirovich-Danchenko appears in bright living colors. The memoirs of V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko organically complement his articles in which he reveals the secrets of Gogol's scenic charm, the difficulty of staging Dostoevsky, Ostrovsky and Tolstoy and, of course, Chekhov.
