The brilliant intellectual, an extraordinary commander, a successful ruler of the Roman Empire, the successor of the “Best Princeps” by Trajan - this was how Emperor Adrian went down in history. He sharply changed the foreign policy of his predecessor: he stopped conquering wars and moved to the defense of the borders of the empire from the barbarians, he founded cities, erected temples and public buildings, patronized scientists, philosophers, writers, paid special attention to the development of the empire’s economy. But with all its enlightenment and religious, sometimes it was not alien to cruelty and unrighteous persecution.
