German writer Rudolph Erich Steppe was born in Hanover in 1736. In life, he had to do a variety of things: he was a clerk and librarian, archaeologist and geologist, translator and publisher. But he became famous for his book about Baron Munchausen. Such a person really existed - Karl Friedrich Jerome von Munchausen served in the army, fought with the Turks, and when he resigned, wrote his memories. His essay, in which there were many invented exploits, and took the spread as the basis of his book. He created his own Munchausen - the famous Veil, whose adventures every schoolboy knows today. On the first page of the book, Baron Munchausen reports that he is the most truthful person on earth.
