Alexander Belyaev. Bar-Sella Zeev
About Alexander Belyaev, which is the title of “Classic of Soviet Fantasy”, surprisingly little is known, and modern biographical certificates of him are full of inaccuracies. He - a graduate of the theological seminary and the legal lyceum - worked in court, played in the theater, was a journalist and even a policeman. After a combination of tragic circumstances, including a serious illness, which periodically chained him to bed, Belyaev’s life changed: a fantast writer appeared, a subtly feeling modernity and having the gift of scientific foresight. Wide recognition came to him posthumously - Belyaev died of hunger in Pushkin occupied by the Nazis. The author of the book, the famous Israeli literary critic Zeev Bar-Sella, relying on archival documents, the memoirs of contemporaries, the writer's works and criticism of his work, reconstructs the biography of Alexander Romanovich Belyaev in the context of the complex time in which he lived and worked.
