Alexander Shipkov is a graduate of Markha. Together with his wife Elizaveta Sipkova, he worked for a long time in the Far North, first in design organizations and later as the chief architect of the city of Norilsk, where, as part of state programs, he developed a new type of residential buildings. Despite the fact that many of the projects did not receive real incarnation, they had a huge impact on the fate of Russian architecture and became the hallmark of Soviet architecture abroad. According to general recognition, Alexander Shipkov is one of the founders of the modern architecture of the North, based not on “features”, but on the laws of harsh nature.
