Vladimir Orlov (1936–2014), a wonderful Russian writer, possessed a truly high creative gift. In his “Ostankino stories” Moscow on the end of the Soviet years-fussy, adventurous, noisy-transforms: some second layer always flickers behind the everyday confusion, the movement of invisible forces, universal energies. In the local orchestra, the place of the demon-musician, who from time to time entertains himself with the flight of lightning to the Ostankino tower (“Altist Danilov”), can turn out to be a slave of the bottle and Bereginyna Nikolaevna-universally, to her own taste, she changes the life of those who had thrown down on “Bubble” of citizens (“pharmacist”). The story is light, full of humor, the subtlest observations and thoughts, leaves an incomparable “aftertaste”, as if something melodically and quietly rang somewhere...
