The first publication of the leadership was released in 2008. This publication was significantly processed and supplemented by some sections (infections associated with the provision of medical care, viral infections-SARS and COVID-19, diarrhea and colitis caused by C. Difficile). The section devoted to the sepsis is fundamentally recycled taking into account the modern concept “Sepsis-3”.

The book reflects the main diseases of infectious etiology in elderly people, found in the practice of doctors of many specialties. The main attention is paid to the risk factors for the development of infections, the features of clinical symptoms and the diagnosis of diseases, rational antimicrobial therapy. The issues of treatment of infections are considered from the standpoint of the strategy and tactics of antibacterial therapy, taking into account the current situation with antimicrobial resistance in Russia.
