Modern European civilization is largely owed to ancient Greece. Over their two thousandth history, the Greeks created a reasonable economic system based on the use of labor and natural resources, a civil social structure, a policy organization with a republican system, a high culture that had a huge impact on the development of Roman and world culture. In the proposed book, first published in 1912 under the name “A Book for Reading Ancient History. Part I ”tells about the daily, private and state life of ancient Greece, about outstanding statesmen, philosophers, writers and military leaders. The reader will visit the People’s Assembly in Athens, will become a participant in the conversations of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, finds out many details of Greek life, visit Olbia, one of the flowering cities of Tauris.
Among the participants in this unusual project were future luminaries of Soviet historical science - N.A. Kun, V.N. Pepperov, si. Radzig, A.A. Fortunatov, A.M. Vasyutinsky, N.M. Nikolsky, K.V. Sivkov. V.N. Dyakov and others.
