The set "Ancient Russian History to the Mongolian Yaga" consists of two volumes.

"Tom I"

Mikhail Petrovich Pogodin (1800-1875)-Russian historian, journalist, publisher. During his professional activity, he collected the most valuable collection of ancient Russian manuscripts and historical documents. The result of their many years of study was the introduction into the scientific circulation of a number of important historical sources and monuments of Russian literature, classical works on the history of Russia. Pogodin's historical views were the recognition of the identity of the Russian historical process: unlike Western states, where, according to Pogodin, the driving force of history and the key feature of political life, the conquest became, a voluntary calling for Rus' of the Varangians and the peaceful acceptance of Christianity is associated with the sources of Russian history. Published in 1871, “Ancient Russian History to the Mongolian Yaga”, in which Pogodin summarized his research on ancient Russian history, became a noticeable event in Russian historical science, finally completing a real transition to a real research process. In the first volume of work, Pogodin creates a general picture of the political and legal life of Ancient Rus' from the beginning of statehood to the Mongol invasion. Particular attention is paid to the institutionalization of relations within and between the principalities, comparison and discussions about the fate of the Western European states and the Russian statehood of the Norman period, and finally, to contacts and conflicts with the closest neighbors of Rus'.
