Andrey Bely. Between the myth and fate. Spivak M.L.
In his book, dedicated to the myth -making of Andrei Bely, Monica Spivak explores his autobiographical practices and strategies, starting from the first performance on the literary stage and ending with desperate attempts to preserve life, face and place in literature under the Soviet regime. The author shows white in his spiritual ups and minor weaknesses as a great writer and at the same time as a ridiculous, often an absurd person, as a symbolist, anthroposophe and mysticism, as a leader of the Argonauts circle, the ideologist of the Almanac “Scythian” and the developer of the concept of the magazine “Notes of Dreamers”.
Particular attention in the monograph is paid to the relationship of the writer with contemporaries, both creative (V.Ya. Bryusov, K. A. Balmont, etc.), and personal (Ivanov-Range, P.P. Pertsov, E.K. Meter), as well as the design of the posthumous image of Andrei Bely in the works of M.I. Tsvetaeva and O.E. Mandelstam. Monica Spivak introduces Bely's work into a literary and socio-political context, analyzes in detail the main mythologists and the language of the Moscow Symbolists of the early 1900s, and also represents a new look at the history of the last symbolist publishing house "Alkonost" (1918-1923), in which Bely accepted Bely Active participation.
