The scientific monograph is devoted to the history of ideas in the field of bastional fortification, which came in the 16th century to replace urban fortifications in the form of high walls with towers. The work considers the artistic merits of the largest fortresses in Europe and Russia, as well as the connection of fortification with the key features of the architectural intellectual culture of the Renaissance, Baroque and Education.
