Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov was born in 1814 in Moscow. The Lermontov clan originates from George Lermont, a native of Scotland, captured during the siege of the Belaya fortress (17th century). The father of Mikhail, Yuri Petrovich, was a poor army officer - retired captain. Mother, Maria Mikhailovna Arseneva, belonged to the noble family of the Stolypin. When Misha was three years old, she became seriously ill and died, and the raising of the boy was taken by the grandmother passionately loved, Elizaveta Alekseevna, who lived on the estate of Tarkhana of the Penza province. Grandma Misha received excellent home education (studied foreign languages, drawing, music). After a serious illness, for a long time that had cooked a boy to bed, his grandmother took him to the Caucasus in 1824 to the waters. Here, Misha added to reading and mastered not only European languages ​​(he read English, German and French writers in the originals), but also studied European culture and literature perfectly. Where he began to engage in poetry. In 1830 he was enrolled in Moscow University for the Moral and Political Department, and then to the verbal. In the same year, in the journal Athenaea, Lermontov’s poem “Spring” was first printed.

In 1832, Lermontov entered the school of guards supporters and cavalry junkers and in November 1834 was promoted to cornets, Life Guards Hussar regiment. He continued to compose poems and poems, took part in the compilation of the magazine “School Dawn”, in which his poems and cadet poems were placed. Lermontov glorified the poem “The Death of the Poet”, written in 1837 and became a response to the duel of Pushkin and Dantes. But the last lines of the poem with sharp attacks against the highest aristocracy caused the anger of Tsar Nicholas I. Lermontov was arrested and transferred by the ensign to the Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon regiment to the Caucasus. Here he wrote the poem “Song about the merchant Kalashnikov”, the poems “Duma”, “Poet”, “Three palm trees.”

In 1841, his quarrel with a retired Major Martynov, which ended with a duel, on which Mikhail Yuryevich took place Lermontov was killed. He was buried in a cemetery in Pyatigorsk, and in 1842 they reburied in the family cemetery in Tarkhany.
