The action of the novel takes place immediately after the Second World War in the small border town of Palak on the border of Slovakia and Hungary. In a palank, life, fulfilled forces, tastes, colors and passions begins to seet up. The butcher Stefan Rechean, who comes to the city with his wife and daughter in the hope of starting a new life, enters such an atmosphere from Northern Slovakia.
