The textbook is developed in accordance with the author’s program of the course of astronomy and is generally agreed with the program of general educational discipline "Astronomy". In it, more than in other similar courses, attention is paid to objects of the solar system, conditions on planets and their satellites, elements of astronautics, the characteristics of a person’s life in outer space and the problem of an asteroid-cubble danger to the inhabitants of the Earth. The general goal of the course is to give an idea of the basic concepts of astronomy, its basic achievements and problems. The course consists of three blocks: methods, objects and additional materials. The first block includes history, tools, observatories, coordinate and time measurement systems, the connection of astronomy with physics and astronautics, the principles of the most important devices. The second block is a discussion of physical nature, the structure and evolution of planets, stars, galaxies and the universe as a whole. The third block contains reference and control materials. Requirements for students do not go beyond knowledge in physics, mathematics and biology of high school. The textbook contains 35 chapters corresponding to 35 lessons. Among them are 34 lecture lessons and 1 seminar (control lesson), which, at the request of the teacher, can be replaced by the presentation of students' essays. The application gives reference tables. The publication is intended for students of medical schools and colleges.
