Having passed from 1918 to 1922 the crucible of Soviet prisons, a single chamber and hunger strike, he not only survived, but also managed to maintain human dignity. The experience in the dungeons was difficult, but not fatal. After the liberation from the conclusion and arrival of the NEP, the author, as objectionable to the new government, was expelled abroad, where in 1929, in Berlin, this book was first published. Its essays on his maintenance are devoted not only to the description of the prison life, but also to the image of the life of Russia at the dawn of red terror.
