The body of a Parisian journalist was found in the refrigerator in the kitchen of his house. The journalist who worked with him disappeared, but a completely exhausted boy was found with a note from her and with a strange tattoo. There are old cases associated with drowned people. All these strange cases are united by one thing: an attempt by certain scientists using prohibitively low temperatures to challenge death. Commissioner Sharko and Lucy Ennebel are included in the investigation of this complex business, now and then moving from Paris to Grenoble, from a psychiatric clinic to a lost monastery or to a secret scientific center located in Los Alamos.
