The problem of autistic spectrum disorders is currently one of the most studied in child psychiatry. The ideas about autism of the scientific community and society as a whole undergo significant changes at a very fast pace, which is reflected in a significant change in sections devoted to this disorder, new international classifications. This book was written in the representative of the ideas and methods of the founder of the St. Petersburg school of child psychiatry of Professor S.S. Mnukhin about the organic nature of autism and violation of the apparatus responsible for the energy support of the brain.
The monograph presents modern data on the etiology and pathogenesis of autism, its clinical manifestations in the transverse and longitudinal sections are considered, diagnostic criteria for an autistic spectrum disorder in accordance with DSM-5 and ICD-11 are given. Much attention is paid to regressive forms of mental development, differential diagnosis of autism and mental retardation, errors in diagnosis. The analysis of modern treatment methods was carried out. In addition, given the fact that some manifestations of autism are also found in ordinary children, the monograph includes a chapter on neurotypic development.
