Awakening. Chopin K.
Edna Pontlier spends summer with her husband and children on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico in the Lebren family boarding house. Acquaintance with Robert Lebren changes something in Edna, their friendship awakens in her thoughts and feelings unfamiliar to her earlier, the former passion for drawing wakes up in her. But the summer is coming to an end, the tenants of the boarding house are returning home, and Robert suddenly announces that he was leaving to try his luck in Mexico, and wants to stay there later, this greatly grieves Edna, although she does not understand why. Returning to the New Orleans, Edna yearns for Robert, rethinks her family life and decides to engage in the mistress’s duties less, and more drawing. She is more and more moved away from the family, the usual circle of communication, which excites her husband Leons.
A frank image of a woman who refuses to accept the role of his wife and mother imposed on her by society, searches for itself as a person, shocked American society. This novel can be put on a par with the “Madame Bovary” by Gustav Flaubert and “Anna Karenina” by Leo Tolstoy.
