Bacterial vaginosis is a dysbiosis of the lower department of the female reproductive tract, but it can cause a number of pathologies, which include premature birth and the birth of premature babies, cervicitis, chorioamnionets, inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs. Women with bacterial vaginosis also have a higher susceptibility to bacterial and viral infections transmitted sexually. The mechanisms of action of numerous antimicrobial peptides are considered. The modern concepts of pathogenesis and difficulties that occur in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis are analyzed.
