Bakunin. Gul R.B.
The time of the novel is the revolutionary events of 1830- 1850 in the countries of Western Europe and the role of Russia in these events. Facts well familiar to lovers of history, the ghoul atmosphere itself shows through two historical figures - the “Russian Scythian” (hence the Blok's epigraph of the novel), the revolutionary and founder of the anarchism of Bakunin and the “gendarme of Europe” Nicholas 1. Their relationship is psychological, ideological and moral - They form the basis of the novel. This is all the more interesting that in life they never met personally.
Ghoul, describing the confrontation between the power of the dictator and the desire for the freedom of the revolutionary Bakunin, sometimes reaching fanaticism, exposes not only the gap between them, but also the general Which inevitably relates and makes the extreme manifestations of “right” and “left” - in history and in politics similar to indistinguishable. And in this ambiguity - the philosophical significance of the novel, which is not outdated to this day.
