Oscar Wilde went down in the history of world literature and theater as an extraordinary prose writer, playwright, poet and essayist. But his work began and ended with poems: in 1878, he won the prestigious prize of the University of Oxford for the Rovenne poem, and the last work was the “Ballad of the Reding prison”, written shortly after liberation from imprisonment in 1897. Wilde easily plays with words and images, creating poetic paintings. In his poems of praise of pleasure and calls for compassion, observation of nature and city life, complex emotions of a vulnerable person and witty satire.
