The action of the “bird of sorrow” unfolds in Zambia of the 1990s, against the backdrop of a failed military coup, election riots and the economic crisis.

Although she tries to stay afloat, after some time she makes a fateful decision that forces Chimuku and her brother Ali look for salvation on the darkest streets of Lusaki. They have to learn how to survive in a dangerous world where cruelty and violence reign.
