The name of Daphne Dumorye (1907–1989) recognized the world in 1938, after the release of the novel “Rebecca”, the seventh book of a young English writer. In total, for a long creative life, she released a dozen novels, several collections of stories (short stories, novels-at different times Dumeria called the works of her little prose differently), as well as three plays, biographies and a book about Cornwall.
A collection of stories by Daphne Dumorye, entitled in 1977, entitled according to the famous short story, “Birds”, was first published in 1952 under the name “Apple tree”, and in 1953-“Kiss me again, a stranger”. In addition to the six stories that make up the author’s collection, the newly previously translated story “Happy Christmas” (1940) is included in the publication in Russian.
