The book included the chosen essays of Joseph Brodsky 1976-1995. In them, the poet recalls childhood and youth, of his hometown and close people, shares his impressions of the events of his life in emigration, reflects on the place of literature in the modern world. Most of the essays were written in English and entered the author’s collections “Less than One” (“Less unity”) and “On Grief and Reason” (“On Grite and Mind”). The rarely published “writer is a lonely traveler” (1972) and Isaia Berlin are added to them at eighty years old ”(1989).
