A very interesting and rare literary monument, an invaluable source of information about the Catherine era. This is a text recorded from the words of a Japanese sailor, whose ship crashed and fled to the Aleutian islands. The Japanese, Kodai, lived for several years in Russia, was in St. Petersburg, and then returned to Japan with the first Russian expedition, where he was interrogated in great detail. The matter took place under Catherine II.

These materials turned out to be so strictly classified that the Japanese themselves removed them from the archives only in the early thirties of the XX century, from afar and again classified with a tiny circulation, and this book did not go on sale. In the USSR, microfilm with this book came only in the early sixties, for ten years there was a preparation of an academic publication, which, alas, became a rarity here.
