This publication is a collection consisting of two works on Buddhism of the outstanding Russian and Soviet orientalist, academician and indispensable secretary of the Academy of Sciences Sergey Fedorovich Oldenburg (1863-1934).

The first part of the collection is the book Buddhist Legends ". This is a translation into Russian of two important sources on the history of Buddhism. The first is called “Bhadracalpavadan” (“The Tale of the Blessed Age” dates from the period no earlier than the 11th century). He sets out events from the life of the teacher, interspersing the story with sermons and legends. The second source is “Jatakamala” (“Girland Jatak”), the work of the Buddhist poet Arya Shura (VI -VII centuries), also telling about the life of the founder of one of the leading world religions. The second part of the collection is the second part of the collection The Lecture “Life of the Buddha”, read by the author at the opening of the first Buddhist exhibition in St. Petersburg on August 24, 1919.

The publication is intended for those who are interested in Buddhism and the life of the great teacher - Siddhartha Gautama, who became enlightened.
