January 1945. The eighth Guards Army of General Chuykov storms the fortress city of Poznan. At the forefront of the advancing forces - the battalion of Major Prokhor Burmistrov. Fighters knock the Germans from the railway station, force the Varta River and capture one of the fortress forts. However, having recovered from the first blow, the Nazis rush into a counterattack and block ours on the upper floors of the building. The score between life and death went for minutes.
