The action takes place in Byzantium, or rather in Constantinople. A modern boy named Alyosha, together with his parents during the summer holidays, goes to Turkey. In Istanbul, the former Constantinople, they go on an excursion. But it so happens that the family is lagging behind the group of excursionists, lost in the tight and winding nooks of the ancient city. A strange old man of an ominous species helps them get out of city catacombs, but Alyosha should help him with something. So the boy becomes a fellow who was in the capital of the Empire of the time of Emperor Constantine.
