Caesar and Cleopatra
The collection includes three plays of Bernard Shaw, revealing different faces of his dramatic talent. Caesar and Cleopatra is an absolute masterpiece of his creative heritage, a merciless historical satire on eternal topics of politicians, war and the struggle for power. In 1945, director Gabriel Pascal shot a film, the main roles in which was played by Vivien Lee and Claude Reins. “Another island of John Bull” - an example of a drama of ideas - is dedicated to the problem of relations between England and Ireland, which the show, being the Irish, always took to heart. The premiere passed with a deafening success-the prime minister even visited the performance, and a special performance for King Edward VII was also ordered. In the brutal satirical parable “Tail of Apples”, which belongs to the so -called “political extravagans”, the show laughs at the meaninglessness of the bureaucratic machine and the absurdity of the intrigues of those in power.
