Capricious reflection. Feministic ideas on the film screen. Kosyakova V.A., Kruvko T.
The relationship between cinema and feminism since both phenomena took an important place in Western culture, were full of contradictions. From the point of view of feminism, cinema is an embodied child of Western patriarchal culture, the personification of male thinking. From the point of view of cinema, a woman is a welcome object for shooting. Thanks to the intersection of these two views, cinema becomes a platform for feminist debates and their studies that have been actively formed for decades.
Based on a wide range of works, Tatiana Kruvko and Valery Kosyakova analyze the current strategies for the interaction of cinema with feminist theories and practitioners of the XX - XXI centuries. The choice of films is dictated by the basic aspects, to which feminist criticism invariably addresses: the representation of bodily, gender policy, power ambitions, politicians of identity, differentness, and postgumanism. Based on the material of the selected paintings, the authors find in the cinema the reflection of the key concepts of femooria and show how the cinema illuminated the internal contradictions of the female movement.
Tatiana Kruvko is a culturalist, a researcher of cinema, an invited teacher of the Higher School of Economics, author of articles and lectures on the history and theory of feminism and cinema.
