In the castle isolated from the outside world, deep in the Austrian forests of Styria, Laura leads a secluded life with his father and few servants. Once the moonlit in the field is broken by a carriage, taking the unexpected guest - the beauty Carmilla. Laura and father invite her to stay with them until she gets better. A wonderful stranger accepts an offer. Soon, strange events begin to take place: Laura gets sick, her condition worsens every day, and at night attacks of suffocation torment. The story is told by a young girl, who is hunted by a vampire named Carmilla, later it turns out that this is Mircalla, Countess Carnstein (Carmilla-Anagram Mirchalls).
"Carmilla" - Gothic novel of 1872 of the Irish writer Joseph Sheridan Le Fanya and one of the first works of the literature on vampires, written a quarter century earlier than the "Dracula" Bram Stoker (1897).
