The book is dedicated to the historical culture of the Franks in the era of the highest heyday of the Carolingian Empire (end. VIII - IX centuries). The Carolingian era occupies a completely special place in the history of medieval Western Europe. It was then, in the second half of the VIII - IX centuries, the strong grounds were laid down what is usually called European civilization with its sense of internal unity, in no way contrary to cultural diversity, an amazing ability to invent new social institutions and a tendency to active Expansion. The origins of all this one way or another go back to the Carolingian Empire.

The publication includes prosaic and poetic works created at the royal court and in some monasteries - leading political and cultural centers of a huge power. These texts give an idea of ​​how the Franks saw their past and present, how they comprehended, recorded, interpreted, broadcast and used historical knowledge. All works were first completely translated into Russian, and some texts were not previously familiar to the domestic reader.
