The book is the most complete and serious historical and geographical research of one of the largest principalities of Ancient Rus', which covered the land from Chernigov in the west to Kolomna and Ryazan in the east.

The book includes an unpublished dissertation of an outstanding specialist in historical geography A.K. Zaitsev, his articles from the low -trip collections on the history of settlements that were part of the Chernihiv reign, as well as a number of publications related to the history of Chernihiv region.

The publication contains the maps compiled by the author, prepared by V. N. Temushev, as well as the bibliography of work and a brief biography of A.K. Zaitsev.
