The collection includes the essay of Joseph Brodsky (1940-1996), dedicated to the history of Russian literature. In these texts, the poet, thinker, Nobel laureate turns to the work of his great brothers, including F. M. Dostoevsky, L. N. Tolstoy, A. Platonov, O. Mandelstam, M. Tsvetaeva, A. Akhmatova and others. Most of the essay was written by Brodsky in English and only “Poet and Prose” in Russian. A number of translations were authorized and published during the life of the author. This edition also presents a new translation of the essay “Chythm of Civilization”, made by the famous translator Maxim Nemtsov.
