Childhood in European autobiographies. From antiquity to modern times

The content of anthology is compiled by translations of autobiographical texts, equipped with comments about their authors. Some of these authors are well known to readers (Aurelius Augustine, Michelle Monten, Jean-Jacques Rousseau), but with most of them readers will meet for the first time. The book also includes the introduction that analyzes the “autobiographical turn” in the history of childhood, introductory articles to each of the parts, considering the features of stories about childhood in different eras, and a brief conclusion, which notes the emergence of fundamentally new ideas about childhood at the beginning of the 19th century. The publication is addressed primarily to students and teachers of humanitarian specialties (historians, anthropologists, psychologists, teachers, philologists, culturalists) and is intended for use in the teaching of relevant disciplines.
