The chosen one is one of the most subtle, fascinating and at the same time philosophical works of Thomas Mann, stylized under the medieval story.
The main source of Thomas Mann was the poem of the German poet Gartman von Aue "Grigory Cuttings" The plot of which the author adheres to the novel. In addition to this poem, in the “chosen one”, according to Mann’s own testimony, the parody rethinking of the “Parcifal” tungsten von Eschenbach, ancient songs dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the Song of Nibelungs received a parody rethinking.
So, the Duke of Flanders and Artois once lived, and they did not have children with the duchess. But once God (and maybe the devil) has mercy on the spouses - the duchess raised the twins. They were destined to secretly love each other, and give the life of the fruit of this terrible sin - a son named Gregorius, who was to survive a lot of strange adventures, to create a lot of things, both bad and good, and become famous under the nickname "Holy Sinner"...
