Chronicle of the times of Karl IX. Merim Prosper
“Chronicle of the times of Karl IX” is one of the most famous historical works of the famous French writer Prosper Merima (1803-1870). This is a fascinating story about people who lived in France in the 16th century, about their cruel and frivolous morals. The central place in the novel is occupied by the love story of the young provincial nobleman Bernard de Merzhi to the beauty Countess Diana. The writer speaks vividly and wittily about Bernard's clashes with his opponent - a soulless court, inhabited duelist. The characters of the novel fall in love and jealous, feast and hunt, mystify each other and fight on duels because of the ladies. But behind all this, the era of religious wars, the tragic events of Bartholomew’s night (August 24, 1572), is full of drama of the book, when the Frenchman killed the Frenchman, his brother raised his hand at his brother.
The book decorates 110 illustrations of the famous French artist Edward Tuduz.
