Church history. Eusebius Caesarean

The reader’s attention is proposed to a new edition of the Russian translation of one of the most significant works of early Christian literature - the “church history” of Eusebius Pamphil, Bishop of Caesarea (263–339), the creator of the church historiography genre. The ten books of this essay describe the dramatic history of the Christian Church in the first three centuries of its existence, starting from the Nativity of Christ and ending with the great race and religious revolution of Konstantin the Great in the first quarter of the 4th century.

The focus of the author’s attention is the succession of the apostles and bishops, the events within the church, the activities of church teachers and writers, the struggle against heretics, the fate of the Jewish people, the persecution of Christians and the exploits of the martyrs. The value of “church history” is also that it has preserved for us a large number of fragments of the works of early Christian authors lost in centuries. A re-verified and corrected for this publication, the translation of 1982 was equipped with a thorough scientific article, extensive historical and historical and literary comments, as well as a list of the latest domestic and foreign literature, prepared by the Doctor of Historical Sciences I.V. Krivushin.
