Each essay is a story about a single campaign or operation, and although the book was preparing for the publication in the late 1920s, it did not lose relevance to this day. All authors of the collection (except P.P. Lebedev) - A. S. Bubnov, I. I. Vacetis, A. I. Egorov, N. E. Kakurin, S. S. Kamenev, M. N. Tukhachevsky, R. P. Aideman-were repressed in the 1930s.
The present publication did not include essays telling about the Soviet-Polish war.
