The novel “Cliff” (1869) was the completion of the “Trilogy” by I. A. Goncharov, begun by the “ordinary history” and continued by Oblomov. All three novels are included in the Golden Fund of Russian and World Literature and are still successful with readers. The “cliff”, on which the writer worked for twenty years, is often called an encyclopedia of passions. After the novel, Goncharov wrote about the main character of his novel, he wrote: “I was fascinated by the manifestations of passion in the pure and proud nature of a woman and her struggle with her. In general, the process of a diverse manifestation of passion, that is, love, which, no matter what they say, has a huge impact on fate, amazes me everywhere. I involuntarily stirred and exhausted almost all the images of passions in the novel. ”
