New Science, the Jambattists Viko, “Protestant ethics and the spirit of capitalism” by Max Weber, a book about Rabelais Mikhail Bakhtin - these works have long been classified as humanitarian classics, and yet disputes are not subsided around. From the moment of the birth of these works, their authors have been accused of an unforgivable philosophical invasion of objective sciences, of a crime before the “truth of fact”. The authors of this collective monograph consider how the creators of humanitarian and social theories - from the early new time to the present day - borrow arguments and actual material, traditionally related exclusively to the competence of historians.

The book covers three problematic fields: the role of history in unorthodox works, such as the above works of Weber or Bakhtin; historical methods in disciplines combining history and theory (historical sociology, historical poetics); An appeal to the historical narrative in the works of sociologists, lawyers, economists and other researchers who are rarely entering the territory of historians. On the one hand, the authors consider how historical material is transformed into theory, and the elements of the intellectual culture of the past resurrect in actual humanitarian philosophy and theory; On the other hand, they explore the ways of assigning a historical argument in the emphasized by the astoric disciplines. The combination of different optics is designed to discover the area of ​​productive interaction between theory and history, in which the first does not come off from the socio-historical being that has generated it, and the second does not come down to a bare fact or the theoretically barren object of the study.
