The fate of the collection of Russian painting by Paul and Sergey Tretyakov is quite dramatic. The richest collection formed by the ascetics of Russian culture at one time was a deep and complete reflection of the development of the national art school from the stage of its formation in the 18th century to the highest prosperity at the end of the 19th century. As part of the exposition of the State Tretyakov Gallery of the twentieth century, the collection of Paul and Sergey Tretyakov was dissolved among the later revenues; Moreover, it is partially disbanded according to other museum funds of Russia.

As a result, the modern viewer is almost impossible to imagine its artistic value, composition and historical scale. A real album is called to help him in this. It is compiled according to the catalog of the artistic works of the city gallery of Paul and Sergey Tretyakov, prepared by P.M. Tretyakov (1898).
