Sergey Dovlatov is one of the most popular and readable Russian writers of the late twentieth century, and he is “doomed” to remain so for a long time. His works are the same great classic, which, for all its significance, remains interesting and close to readers, regardless of age, nationality, erudition or, in the words of Dovlatov himself, “degree of intellectual meticulousness”. Lev Losev formulated this quality of Dovlatov’s prose as follows: “Dovlatov knew the secret of how interesting to write.” The current publication included early stories and novels of Dovlatov, as well as widely known and beloved works: “Zone”, “Compromise”, “Ours”, “Foreigner” and “Suitcase”.
